What Are You Doing About It?

February 14, 2008 · Filed Under Business Basics

“Perseverance is a great element of success. If you knock long enough and loud enough at the gate, you are sure to wake up somebody”— Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

If you want to have a better business, or you want to make more money, or you want better things for yourself and for your family, “What Are You Doing About It?”

Sitting back and wishing is easy…

Criticizing other people for having the kind of success you want for yourself is dangerous and so easy to do it’s scary…

Sitting back and complaining that no one is around to help you is even easier. It’s always easy to give yourself an excuse for not doing what you know needs to be done.

Doing everything you can to make your dreams a reality and humbling yourself to ask for help when it’s needed are where most people fall flat!

Everything you need to get your business to where you want it to be can be found if you’re willing to look hard enough.

When I couldn’t get support and understanding from my family (instead of getting discouraged and giving up) I turned to marketers who understood this “crazy need” I have to work for myself and were willing to help.

When I didn’t have a computer I found someone who would let me use theirs whenever possible.

When I didn’t have a clue how to write HTML I took every tutorial that popped up in the search engines. When I didn’t even have $10 to spare for advertising I learned (out of necessity) how to get thousands of targeted visitors a month to my sites for free.

You have obstacles in your way, which may seem insurmountable at times, but they aren’t…

You may have family or “friends” who give you a hard time because they don’t understand why you would want to put yourself through all the frustration of trying to be your own boss.

But in the end, most of them admire you for trying to do something they’re afraid to do, which is to potentially risk your financial security in the pursuit of it…

So if you truly do want a better life,  “What are you going to do about it?”

Sincerely,
Derrick VanDyke

    Derrick,

Without a doubt your words ring true. Right now I feel like the poster boy for perseverance.

I don’t know how many times over the past 2 years I’ve been on the verge of giving up. You feel so defeated when you get ‘ripped off’ by a so-called guru, or left hanging, or given awful advice. It’s hard to remind yourself that the latest failure is really a learning experience in disguise.

But each experience is another baby step toward success. We all feel bad when our performance doesn’t measure up to our expectations, but we would feel worse if we never tried, or just quit.

Now I just remember to keep my eye on the prize. There is no stronger motivation.

I’m on day 2 of the ‘30 Day Challenge’ doing my assignment and BTW, hopped on that ListBandit suggestion. Excellent program.

Great post!! has anyone heard anymore about blogger killing affiliate blogs? Getting traffic to your blogs and website is not as easy as some make it seem…

    Hi Derrick,

Great post. If I could tell you how many times I have thought about what am I going to do about it (getting up and running and making money on the internet), well, I am sure almost all of us have asked ourselves that same question over and over until we finally get the right answer. I believe many of us are waiting for the answer we want to hear and not the real answer.

My problem is not only having too much information but filtering through it and deciding which will do me the most good or what will really work for me.

You mentioned turning to other marketers. Well, I am still searching for the one (or ones) who really do want to take some time out of their busy days to help me. But trying to find a way to get a hold of some of these people is hard enough let alone to actually get an answer back from a live person and not an autoresponder or voice mail.

Back to the question, What am I going to do about it? I am going to keep looking for someone I can talk with and who, in turn, will really want to help me. I am going to work as hard as I need to. I am going to make a plan and take action and follow it. That is what I am going to do.

Thanks for all your great advice.

Writing an article at the moment, on the thirty day challenge. Including list bandit, I have managed to send out 35240 of your pre-written emails on lists, and place twelve classified ads. Trying also to write
a small piece for our blog.

WOW, Derrick…nothing like getting hit right between the eyes.

I have such a burning desire to make my biz work. I am a mother of two small boys and a wife and I am nonstop right now on the computer learning everything possible to get my income to around $5k/month so I don’t have to leave the house and get a job. I am a defunked mortgage broker and I am used to working from home. Going back out into the real world is not my idea of fun.

I thank you for ACS - I am learning alot and implementing ALL of it. I will succeed with this business. Keep all the good information coming…I need it!

  8. Kelly on February 14th, 2008 2:57 pm

I joined your ACS program a couple of months ago. My biggest problem is trying to find the time to get on the computer and follow your steps. I have two little boys under the age of 5 so it gets difficult to do things on the computer without the distractions. I know my website could use some polishing but it’s a start.

My plan to ‘do something about it’ is to set aside one hour in the morning and one hour in the evening while the kids are sleeping so I can focus on getting the cash rolling.

I also plan on building my list by promoting my website through another website that I have which is unrelated to this business with a link that people can follow. I have also joined the ListBandit and plan to get going on that tonight.

I really want to succeed at this venture and plan to focus on just one program until I have seen some steady income of at least $300/mth.

Sometimes being a stay-at-home Mom is difficult. I plan to use ACS as a way to supplement my husband’s income and pay off some bills with maybe a bit left over for me. :)

I’m doing the best I can with the money I have. It’s not that I’m lazy and if I am inconsistent, it’s because of money. Don’t laugh, it really is the money.
Why don’t some people understand the terminology “NO MONEY”. It’s simple to me. I’ve had it said to me “Just get another credit card! Egads!!
That makes my blood pressure go through the roof. It’s credit cards that get most people into trouble and in this case, that’s exactly what happened. I’m $20000.00 in debt and it’s all been peed away on the Internet. A lot of people on the Net are scandalously
dishonest and just plain crooks. I’ve been ripped off too many times to count. It puts me in the “NO” mode for a few days but soon I’m back to thinking I’m going to make something that works, and I’m back in there. Derrick maybe you were so honest you scared me off, I don’t know, but you are definitely honest. Now that I’ve got that of my chest, that’s enough. Brenda

Great post Derrick. I remember a time when my family was calling my business an “obsession.” Maybe it was that but I think that nothing awesome ever comes without hard work. I had a goal and it required me to buckle down and learn everything that I could about all things Internet marketing. You are so right that there are really no excuses, everything can be found if you just look and there are people around who are willing to help. I know in the beginning it’s hard to know where to start and what questions to ask but you can get through it. I, like you, started out clueless but I made it through the rough patches too.

Just remember to never ever give up and you’ll be fine.

    Hey Derrick,
You are making too much sense lol … but I love it though and love reading your posts!

I think it was just the other day I read somewhere on the net” action overcomes fear ”…or something like that … and well, in my case anyway, not just in online marketing but life in general, those words speak the truth.

There is nothing more powerful than ” action ”, for me, action is ” what I do about it ”…the ”only” thing that can get results is ”action”, no matter how small, at least you are doing it……action is what ” makes things happen ” anything else is just ” armchair theory ”, you can know the A-Z of every theory on every method and trick on any subject but ”action ” and only action will turn that theory into a workable concrete reality, anything else other than taking action will distract you and ultimately lead you away from your goals.
If you can take action each and everyday then this will help answer the title and theme to Derrick’s post for you.

It’s always great reading your posts Derrick,
not many well known big time marketers would have the courage to come out and honestly tell us how things really are and what needs to be done to conquer and win.
Here’s to you mate! and may your Affiliate Cash Secrets ” shake the dirt from the old and worn out recycled BS the online marketing world has offered us up to now.

    :-)

I am really impressed by this post,Derrick!During the last 10 years I was fighting trying to found the Holy Grail which can help me to make money online.I had high paid job and was buying everything possible left and right.I thought I have to know everything about all aspects of Online Marketing.I spent over $40,000 for this education and never made any money. Why?I leave it without comments because everybody has own opinion. Finally I found myself completely lost in this rough sea of Online marketing.I was blaming all “these Gurus” who sell BS and do not care about me.But with time I realized that all these pices of information I was buying during these 10 years should be placed in some specific place only and I started to think about entire Game.At that point I was completely unfocused buying today eBook about “Making Fortune With Google Adwords”, tomorrow “Traffic Arbitrage”, the next day something else.It was OK till I had my job. When I lost high paid job I kept buying and very quickly found myself in huge debt.I am lucky guy because my wife believes in me, supports me all the time and knows that I finally will succeed and I will.No doubts.Just now I have to choose one strategy and follow one direction.Because moving in 100 different directions is the right way to come nowhere.
Derrick is right,-we do not have to blame nobody. All the obstacles are sitting in our head.We create them ourself and only.If somebody of Gurus is not 100% honest guy it doesn’t mean all of them are the same.I truly believe in this and wish everybody to found his/her Teacher.Look into the Bible.Over there is such words “When student is ready the Teacher is coming”.Let’s prepare ourselves not for the “Get Overnight Rich” but for the long and successful journey.
It is not easy, I know, but persistence and patience are our first tools. When we need something else, there are everything available. And, please, ask yourself honestly:”when you will make millions online, would you spent your precious time to teach somebody for $40 how to duplicate your success”?The answer is obvious,-right?
    Thank you!

    Hi Derrick,

Very well said. As someone who is highly involved in the self-improvement/self-help field, this is one of those key truths I try to get my clients/visitors to understand. It’s good to see this type of information spreading out to all areas of the net. Keep up the great work.

Derrick has words of wisdom that just about everyone will have to agree that in order to have success one will have to never give up.But I think a lot of people including myself are not willing to invest in programs untill they pay off their existing credit card debt etc. Then when a person can get themself in a position that they will not have any presure so to speak to possibly invest a small sum on a program they truly believe in.Good luck to all of you that might read this but have decided to go for it and get the plastic out as I hope that you are successfull.

    Derrick,

Thank you for providing these wise insights from someone who has been there, I especially like the following statement from you.

“Doing everything you can to make your dreams a reality and humbling yourself to ask for help when it’s needed are where most people fall flat!”

Another reason this is so powerful coming from you is because ACS is one of the very few excellent marketing and education systems which provides the necessary support/help which everyone needs especially with the technical stuff.
